I recently visited Eu Yan Sang’s Jem TCM clinic for a wrist sprain, confident that their long-standing reputation in TCM would provide the care I needed. My first visit went well — acupuncture and herbal remedies worked, and I left feeling optimistic. Naturally, I called the clinic the next day for another session, expecting more of the same.
But, to my surprise, my second visit was a masterclass in turning a positive experience upside down. Instead of the acupuncture I had requested, a different physician recommended tui na. Trusting their expertise, I agreed. What followed was a 5-minute session where the physician applied minimal effort, gently pressing different parts of my wrist and arm while repeatedly asking if I felt any pain. No real attempt was made to address the problem, and by the end, I was simply told it would heal on its own. For $75, I expected more than what felt like a half-hearted wrist checkup.
When I raised my concerns, I received a disappointingly generic response from Eu Yan Sang. Rather than addressing the issue or offering any meaningful resolution, they merely informed me that I should have known to stick with the same physician for “standardized continual care” — a critical detail that was never communicated to me beforehand. Instead of addressing the lackluster tui na session, they simply provided me with a schedule of when the “right” physician would be available, as if I should return to spend more money to correct their mistake.
While I now have a detailed schedule of their physicians, it feels like an empty gesture. What I really expected was an acknowledgment of the subpar treatment I received and an actual solution, not just an invitation to come back. For a brand with such a strong reputation, I expected far more than a poorly crafted email that sidestepped my concerns entirely.
So, if you’re considering Eu Yan Sang, be sure to double-check who’s treating you, what treatment you’re getting, and whether your expectations match theirs. Because clearly, communication isn’t always their strong suit.
After reading other reviews from past patients with similar experiences, it’s clear I’m not alone in my frustration. Perhaps Eu Yan Sang should stick to selling TCM products, where their reputation is strong, rather than running a clinic that struggles to uphold basic standards of care. For $75, I could have easily gotten a full hour of tui na elsewhere, with much better results.

Spent $215 for treatment and medicine but NOTHING was fixed.
I strained a muscle on my back and decided to seek Chinese Medical treatment because I thought it would work better rather than relying on the western muscle relaxant approach.
First time here at Eu Yan Sang because its a famous brand and that should be the start of my regret.
Started with a consultation - $25 - ok fine. Reasonable.
At the reception area, the staff did inform me that Acupuncture, Tuina, Cupping (I believe those are the common procedures) starts from $40 - 60 each - even though the price list she pointed to printed $30 - 60. Then she also mention that medicine comes in only powder form and start from $12 a day and the price list stated $11.
Fine, I accepted and decided to proceed because I trust that they were a trusted brand and my condition could be resolved after the treatments.
When the treatment start, the physician just added on the treatment list that he thinks is appropriate. First, he told me that acupuncture is necessary and tuina was not quite suitable, so ok, we proceed. At the treatment room, he decided to inform me that he will add in cupping as well.
5-7 needles for acupunture - $60
4 cupping cups - $60
I have no idea how it was being calculate that reached the maximum amount of both treatments, given that it is only a small area on my back, left shoulder, not the full body. Including the medicine they charged me for 5 days at $13.20/day, that's how the bill came to that shocking amount of $215.73 inclusive of consultation.
Whole thing lasted for 1h10mins.
But after a good 3 days, MY BACK MUSCLES STILL HURTS, like I have never been to the treat AT ALL. This is what frustrates me because this is the first time I have been charged so much for TCM just because I trusted a brand name and wanted to heal. I should have gone to neighbourhood TCM clinics that has well reputation and probably not get robbed blatantly in broad daylight.
Much regret, thus the super negative review and urge others to think thrice before you visit. Thanks.

First time trying TCM, and got a relatively shocking experience.
Was first told to sign a some sort of indemnity form (which was what I understood up till now) and I was not told what it is, until I asked.
And the more shocking part was that the physician just gave me 1 min “tuina” and charged an extra $60 for it.
I didn’t find the whole TCM experience useful as my shoulders and neck are still hurting. 🤷🏼♀️

The doctor of clinic is not precessional, the questions from doctor are very generic, and the medicine offered by doctor also very generic, it is not specific to each individual’s situation. The doctor even cannot tell what materials are included in the medicine but just ask you to trust and buy.
If you choose not buy the medicine, the lady in the front desk will say you are wasting doctor’s time. How come i paid consultant fee they feel I wasting doctor’s time? Shouldn’t I say they are wasting my money? I never see such bad attitudes in any clinic or hospital in my life.

They don't take appointments, just walk in, first come first serve, so you can wait forever.
They don't take you, unless you agree you buy medicine for $11 per day afterwards, depending on how many days the doctor assigns. So the medicine costs more than the actual treatment and the first session consultation fee together.
No examinations, only asking questions of symptoms.
The treatment was very generic, I felt the doctor does the same treatment for all patients. No personal experience.
When I have asked when to return, I was told, if I feel better I don't need to return. I mean who gets better after 1 treatment? Especially when it is a generic treatment?

You missed the point in your response. I understand MOH protocol. You just need better receptionists.

I have written a positive review about 4 years ago below.
Today's experience required me to change my ratings. In summary, @Eu Yan Sang, if you are in the healthcare business and are afraid to have patients with potential infectious disease visiting, then you need to close your clinics or else maybe you need to hire more professional receptionist. For those who are interested in details, you can read on.
I rang to try to book an Appt for my daughter (on 27th Feb, 10.45am) who have tested positive and is on her Day 7 which means she can exit self isolation based on MOH Protocol 2, for that matter, she has tested negative for the last 2 days. She has a lingering mild cough so I was looking for TCM to help her.
The receptionist who took the call was very hesitative after I told her my daughter's condition and I told her I will ensure she is negative before coming. Her way of handling my call was clear that she seems reluctant to give an Appt but finally gave me one at 7pm. What really infuriated me further was she repeated 3 times for me to take an ART for my daughter and to bring the test along over the next 1 min of conversation. I don't understand which part of our conversation shows her that I didn't understand her concern. In fact, I proactively volunteered all the info and told her we will take an ART before coming.
Whatever I wrote don't really described the whole call, so like I said in the beginning, if you are so concerned when you are in the healthcare business, get out!!
--P.S. This was reviewed by my probably around 2018--
Good friendly service. Doctors are experienced. My Daughter were well taken of by them.

very bad experience. doctor tried to me make me sign a form stating that I would be willing to accept all forms of treatments (acupuncture, etc) even before explaining to me the details, or why I needed those treatments. after a cursory "diagnosis" she prescribed some medications for 5 days, which added up to almost a hundred dollars. felt like she was just trying to make money.

Just called over to Jem outlet, ask about gua sha. The lady answered my call with sarcasm, and did not end it with a good note for saying thank you nor was she polite speaking with me. She hang the phone call with a good smack, it was loud and clear to my hearing. I hope the next person answering my phone call will do better next time.
